The IMDb website has presented its annual rankings of the most popular movies, TV series and actors. The rating is headed by Pedro Pascal, who starred in two hit TV series at once – The Mandalorian and The Last of Us, which was also recognized as the best show of 2023. Meanwhile, Oppenheimer is the top film, slightly outperforming its summer competitor and box office leader Barbie.

Pedro Pascal topped the top 100 stars of 2023. The Chilean-born actor starred in two of the most popular TV series of the year, The Last of Us and The Mandalorian. He also received three Emmy Award nominations.

This summer, Christopher Nolan’s historical biopic brought the controversial career of J. Robert Oppenheimer into subatomic focus on screens around the world, with the explosive film running alongside Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, giving rise to the Barbenheimer internet phenomenon. This didn’t stop both films from earning decent money – the Mattel movie grossed over $1 billion worldwide, while Nolan’s film grossed over $900 million.

Within a month of its debut, Oppenheimer, starring Cillian Murphy, topped IMDb’s most popular films and eventually secured the top spot in the overall top of 2023.

The top ten also includes this year’s box office leader Barbie, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, The Little Mermaid, John Wick: Chapter 4, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Five Nights at Freddy’s, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Killers of the Flower Moon and The Flash.

TV series of the year – The Last of Us

The Last of Us

The show’s debut season, based on the events of The Last of Us, a PS3 game released in 2013, consisted of 9 episodes that consistently broke viewing records during its broadcasts. Subsequently, The Last of Us achieved the title of the most watched series on HBO of all time and was nominated for 24 Emmy Awards. It was announced two weeks after the last episode of the first series aired in March. And in August, the co-creators announced 4 seasons for the post-apocalyptic show.

The show helped Pedro Pascal (who was on top of the STARmeter rating for four weeks) become a viral superstar, and Bella Ramsay, despite previous criticism, fit into the role and became a favorite of many fans.
